I)
Fully
incorporated into the Hindu social order, can't be differentiated. Bhils
II)
Positively
oriented towards the Hindu social order. Santhals, Oraons.
III)
Negatively
oriented towards the Hindu social order. Mizos and the Nagas.
IV)
Indifferent
towards the Hindu social order. Arunachal tribes
Verrier Elwin proposed a fourfold classification:
primitive
live in a joint communal life and cultivate with axes. least influenced by Hinduism. Onge Jarawas
Equally attached
to their solitude and ancient traditions, but individual stick and used
to outside contact. Mundas
Santhals
Face external influence and on the
way to lose
their culture.
Gonds
and bhils.
Retain
much of their original tribal life and culture.
